Hello everyone, my name is Ben and I am based in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. I maintain another blog together with my lovely wife. Ironically, that site (http://chowtimes.com) is all about food which explains my constant battle with my weight.

I started this blog simply as a motivation to achieve a desire I always had since I was in my teens. I had always been fascinated with the marathon ever since I saw a documentary on TV of the Ethiopian runner, Abebe Bikila. Until today I still remember his name. Abebe won the Olympics marathon twice.

I do not aspire to win the marathon, not at all. LOL! I just want to train for the marathon and then complete it. At this time I do not care what my timing will be but I want to complete it before the marathon organizers shuts down the course (which I think is 6 hrs) and orders everyone onto the sidewalk!

For now, my goal is two-fold:

  1. Run the 10K Sun Run in under 60 minutes
  2. Complete the Okanagan Marathon

In the process, I know I will also lower my BMI to under 25. Currently I am classified as overweight at 27.9 on the BMI scale. I know I can do that.

It’ll be great if you find the interest to follow my saga … lend me your moral support and cheer me on to run the extra mile.

OK …

I am not sure if this is all a mistake or what. This thing had been in my mind since early December last year. For some strange reason, I am so determined to complete the Marathon. I don’t care how I do it but I will make every attempt to complete it … whether I run or walk … or crawl!

This will perhaps be the hardest thing I will ever attempt in my life. Right now, I am not sure if I will make it. I have all the odds stacked against me right now:

  • I had never ran competitively before
  • I am overweight
  • I am in the throes of middle age

For what it is worth, I am going to finish the Marathon in 2008 and will be recording my attempt on this blog. Once I had achieved that, I’ll stop this blog and move on to another challenge in life. But for now, I am bent on completing the Marathon.

Wish me the best! Cheers … :-)
